The SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation qualification is delivered through online theory and practical work placement and takes up to 12 months to complete. Course overview

Education  

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification as specified in the packaging rules.  No specific educational prerequisites are required to enrol in this course. 

Pre-screening  

AIPT uses LLN Robot to pre-screen you before enrolment across five core skills including literacy, numeracy, oral communication, learning and reading.  

Parental permission  

If you are under 18 your enrolment form will need to be signed by a parent or guardian.  

Residency status  

You must be a permanent Australian resident (or equivalent) or have the right to study in Australia, other than a Student Visa.  

External requirements  

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid must be completed with an external provider.  

Physical capabilities  

Reasonable physical capability is required to complete this course. Physical activities required for the practical components of this course include (but are not limited to): 

  • Completing repair and maintenance activities   
  • Handling activity equipment including using safe manual handling techniques and storing small and large pieces of equipment   
  • Cleaning and management of waste   
  • Using emergency equipment 

Recognition of prior learning  

We offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as an option for those who have gained relevant skills and knowledge through prior experience or training. If you believe you may be eligible, please contact our Career Advisor to discuss the RPL process and how it can be applied to your studies.  

Please note: While RPL allows you to gain credit for existing knowledge and skills, it is not necessarily less work than the standard study method. The RPL process requires you to demonstrate your competencies through rigorous assessment, which may involve providing evidence, completing 3rd party observation checklist, knowledge questions, and/or attending competency call (for certain government funded enrolments).  

Assessment will include knowledge questions, quizzes, case studies, workplace observation, and workplace projects.  

Knowledge questions: You’ll be presented with short answer questions that require a written response.  

Quiz: You’ll be presented with quizzes that include multiple choice, matching, and true or false questions to test your knowledge.  

Case study: You’ll be given a scenario and asked to respond as the circumstances change. The assessor looks at how you effectively manage a range of situations and how you apply your knowledge to each one.  

Project: You’ll be required to complete one or more tasks that demonstrate your application of knowledge and skills in a written format. 

Workplace observation assessment: You’ll be required to complete set tasks with the nominated workplace supervisor, as per the Placement Agreement. This also includes the completion of task documents and templates, which you must complete with observation tasks. This assessment must be completed in a pre-approved sports or community recreation facility or gym under the direct supervision of a suitably qualified, pre-approved workplace supervisor or supervisors.

AIPT offers a range of learning support services including individual support plans and learner guides delivered in alternative formats.

Work placement requirements  

You’ll be required to complete practical tasks under the direction of a qualified workplace supervisor and must have access to a sports or community recreation facility or gym to complete practical tasks in the workplace. 

Workplace supervisor requirements  

You’ll be required to perform practical tasks under the direction of a qualified supervisor. The supervisor must meet the following industry experience criteria:  

  • Must demonstrate a minimum 12 months of full-time experience (or the part-time equivalent of 12 months over a two year period) in the Sports and Recreation industry with demonstrated competency to observe and supervise practical tasks in the workplace 
  • Must have equivalent work experience and competence 
  • Must hold a Working with Children Check if the student is under 18 years old 
  • Must hold a minimum Certificate III in Sport and Recreation/Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation qualification or higher  

You’ll be responsible for sourcing an appropriate work placement host employer/s. AIPT may provide support and guidance to identify work placement opportunities.  

To successfully complete this course, it’s essential that your placement provider has the necessary equipment, resources and/or documentation. For detailed information on these requirements, please reach out to our friendly Career Advisors to obtain a copy of the complete list.  

For the online part of this course, you’ll need regular access to:  

Computer: Laptop or desktop computer with working speakers or headphone points. Note that our Learning Management System (LMS) is not compatible with touchscreen

Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

* This course contains the unit HLTAID011 Provide First Aid which must be completed through an external RTO. AIPT has an agreement in place with Red Cross Australia (RTOID 3605) which allows students to receive training for this unit at a reduced price or you may source your own training provider. Please note that the cost of this external training is not included in your course fee. Upon completion, you will need to submit a copy of your First Aid certificate for us to process a Credit Transfer against this unit of competency on your student record.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to participate in the processes of work health and safety (WHS) hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control. It includes participating in worker consultation and support to contribute to a healthy and safe workplace.

The unit applies to those who assist with identifying workplace hazards and assessing and controlling WHS risks as part of their WHS responsibilities, which are in addition to their main duties.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify and respond effectively to emergency situations. It requires the ability to maintain participant welfare during emergencies.

This unit applies to any type of sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation organisation including commercial, not-for-profit, community and government organisations. It can be applied to a particular environment or workplace, and to specific types of emergency incidents.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others. 

The unit applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carry out their own work, either under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility. 

This course offer includes the units BSBOPS304, HLTWHS001 and SISFFIT036 as part of the cluster GE01 Group Exercise. Students who complete this cluster and submit a copy of their statement of attainment for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid are eligible to receive the skill set SISSS00128 Group Exercise Leader. This skill set is targeted toward group exercise leaders who lead predesigned group exercise sessions in settings such as fitness facilities, gyms, and leisure and community centres.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to complete routine maintenance and minor repairs on sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation activity equipment, and to appropriately store equipment. Complex repairs would be referred to specialist service technicians.

This unit applies to any type of sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation organisation including commercial, not-for-profit, community and government organisations. It can be applied to any type of environment, and to specific equipment used for any type of sport, fitness, aquatic or recreation activity.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to address the needs and expectations of clients and colleagues, promote programs, services and facilities, and respond to conflict and client complaints.

This unit applies to individuals working in a range of customer service roles in the sport, fitness or recreation industries. This includes individuals working in gyms, aquatic centres, community centres or indoor activity centres, as well as to those working as instructors, trainers or guides and volunteers in indoor and outdoor settings. These individuals undertake work according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop and update current and emerging information on the sport, fitness and recreation industry. This unit requires the ability to source and comprehend general sport, fitness and recreation industry information and develop a required knowledge base.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to organise personal work schedules, to monitor and obtain feedback on work performance and to maintain required levels of competence. 

The unit applies to individuals who exercise discretion and judgement and apply a broad range of competencies in various work contexts. 

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. 

This unit applies to all workers. 

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop and maintain an effective relationship with key stakeholders who contribute to and influence the delivery of sport, fitness, aquatic and recreation services.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage ongoing and sometimes complex relationships with clients.

This unit applies to workers in all industry sectors who take pro-active responsibility for their own professional development.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply basic infection prevention and control principles in work settings including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to risks.
